GT - gifted and talented

Welcome to Sierra’s Gifted and Talented!

We take great pride in identifying, differentiating and meeting the needs of our students who are on Advanced Learning Plans! Sierra Elementary is committed to providing an environment where ALL students can succeed academically, socially and emotionally as critical thinkers and problem solvers in a global society.

The GT program at Sierra (SAGE) is a combination of Advanced Learning Plans (ALP) and pull-out independent guided study designed to meet the needs of the students who have demonstrated potential abilities which are so outstanding that qualitatively different programming is essential. Programming is designed to meet cognitive and affective needs through opportunities for acceleration, complexity of thinking, and in-depth learning.

The classroom teacher is the primary provider of advanced academic services to students. Programming is documented in the student's Advanced Learning Plan (ALP).

SAGE is just one way that Sierra is able to foster such an environment! Students who are exceeding in the core curriculum and/or on ALP’s participate in SAGE Projects ranging from coding robots to researching how to help prevent pollution, to designing football helmets that will reduce concussions.

Jessie Francis, Sierra’s GT Resource Teacher, is beginning her 13th year of teaching. Not only does she focus on giving students the skills to create advanced learning projects, she also works with the students, parents, and teachers on social-emotional skills, self-advocacy, and The Twice-Exceptional Learner all while differentiating for the various gifted learning styles within her classes.

The Jefferson County Association for Gifted Children (JAGC) is a non-profit group providing leadership and support to families and educators of gifted young people in Jefferson County, Colorado. JAGC (pronounced Jag-C) works in positive partnership with Sierra's GT Resource Teacher to provide support for parents by promoting information about the educational and social-emotional needs of gifted and talented students.
